This week, please give a warm hello to Jacqui Barrett, founder of Salient Future. Read on, be inspired, and connect with Jacqui!

What does your business do, and when did you start it?
We create beautiful short films to translate complex information into engaging content for the fintech and wider start-up community. We do some pretty cool branding too. We launched in Spring 2018.

Why did you start your business? I've always loved being involved with making content, from 30-second animation explainers to BBC1
blockbusters. My BBC career was all about marrying the creative with the financial, and I enjoyed making those two worlds live in harmony. During my career break caring for my mum (early-onset Alzheimer's) and having my two bonkers little girls, I realised there was this huge energetic surge in start-ups, especially in the fintech world... but many needed help to communicate their USP or to simply explain what the heck their amazing thing is. So, it's Salient Future Girl to the rescue!

What do you love most about your business?
The thrill of it all. It was really exciting when I had that epiphany, knowing I was going to do this and really go for it. It's exciting running your own show. Scary but exciting. I get a kick out of really impressing a client with the final goods. I was always a swot, so that high of pleasing the teacher with my neat homework is still in me. And I feel really privileged to be invited into someone else's journey, helping develop their branding and content and seeing them rise up.
Also, it's very rare, but I also really really love a spontaneous and cheeky boozy lunch and deciding I'm going to get tipsy instead of going back to work, because ah f'ck it, I'm the boss!

What tip, insight, or piece of advice you would like to share with the community?
Being a female entrepreneur and focusing on a male-dominated sector can be daunting, lonely and intimidating. Find your network, your like-minded people who are separate from friends and family, with whom you can share, open up, support and smash it together.

"Believe in yourselves. Stand up and say: Give me the effing ball. Give me the effing job. Give me the same pay the guy next to me gets. Give me the promotion. Give me the microphone. Give me the oval office. Give me the respect I deserve - and give it to my wolfpack too.” --from Wolfpack by Abby Wambach

I love this because, as well as the obvious, it’s about pulling up your sisters with you. We need to support each other and give each other the gig wherever we can.
